Eugene Domingo forgives indie director Rafa Santos for "Skyflakes and catfood" comment
(SPOT.ph) While accepting her Best Actress award at the Cinemalaya Awards Night on Saturday, July 24, comedienne Eugene Domingo said that she and the rest of the theater community have already forgiven indie director Rafa Santos for his controversial comments on Cityscape about how stage actors could be fed Skyflakes and be paid in cat food, reports ABS-CBN News. Domingo said in her speech that the 25-year-old director deserves a second chance.
"Forgive me if I have to say this, nagkita kami ni Rafa at humingi siya ng personal na apology (I met with Rafa and he personally apologized)... In behalf of theater actors, Rafa, we forgive you. We are all united here, everybody has the chance to work and to shine and to develop his craft," said Domingo whose acting career stemmed from theater.
Santos, meanwhile, was grateful for Domingo's gesture. "Nagpapasalamat talaga ako... nagpapasalamat ako sa kabutihan ng pagkatao ni Ms. Eugene Domingo (I'm really thankful for Ms. Eugene Domingo's kindness)," he told PEP.ph, pleased that Domingo mentioned him in her acceptance speech. "I don't know if I'll ever get to pay her back for that," he told PEP.ph. "So, kay Ms. Eugene Domingo, ang masasabi ko lang is thank you and ngayon pa lang, mahal na kita (To Ms. Eugene Domingo, all I can say is thank you and I love you)," he said.
The Samarito director admitted that his statement on Cityscape was poorly worded but he maintains that he didn't mean anything bad about it. "What I wanted to say was, 'I love working with theater actors...'" he said, adding that he understood why the theater community felt strongly about his comments.
