7 suspected members of carnapping groups killed in Makati, QC shootouts
(SPOT.ph) Two suspected members of the Onad Carnapping Group and a rookie police officer were killed during a shootout at the Buendia-Ayala intersection in Makati City at 4 a.m. yesterday, August 10, reports ABS-CBN News. The Onad Carnapping Group, headed by Ronaldo "Onad" Santiago, steals cars to use for other crimes such as bus hold-ups and carjacking.
According to a Manila Bulletin report, one of the suspects, identified as Dave Garcia, was slain at a parking lot during the shooting while his accomplice, Mac-Mac, was killed as he tried to escape through the drainage system. One civilian and a few police officers were also injured.
Around the same time at 4:30 a.m., a different carnapping syndicate, the Lintag Group, also figured in a car chase and shootout with police officers in Quezon City, reports the Journal.com. Five out of the suspected 10 members involved were killed. According to Criminal Investigation and Detection Group commander Samuel Pagdilao, Lintag was composed of ex-convicts and was responsible for a series of carnapping and hold-ups in Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog, and Central Luzon.
