(SPOT.ph) Penpen’s, the restaurant owned by indie actor Ping Medina, has found its way to a bigger space in Quezon City’s bohemian enclave, Cubao X. The Pinoy food haunt, which used to be located in the Tomas Morato area in Quezon City, closed its doors for a few months until they reopened here with a revamped menu.
According to Medina, the bigger kitchen in their new location allows them to do more with the menu. A few must-try dishes you can check out: the Smoked Tapang Usa (P210) uses duck eggs that lends creamier tones than the average chicken egg to the soft slivers of deer meat in this Pinoy almusal staple; the Three Cheese Baked Bangus Belly (P158), riddled with strong salty cheese flavors from cheddar cheese, quezo de bola and quesong puti ; and the halo-halo, which gets its milky flavors from carabao milk. "We make our ice cream here, too," he adds.
Old habitués of Penpen’s, on the other hand, will still find the crowd favorites in the menu: Penpen’s Bulalo Negro (P260), with slow-cooked beef bones swimming in a darker, tasty meat broth and the Crispy Liempo (P210), with pork strips fried to a bacon-like texture in pop-in-your-mouth sizes. Expect more desserts and clay-pot dishes to make their debut on Penpen’s menu in the next few months.
