Congressman denies punching security guard at UP-Ayala Technohub; but guard says he now "fears for his life"

Lanao del Sur Rep. Mohammed Hussein Pangandaman has denied being involved in an altercation with a security guard, GMA News Online reports.

What really happened between the congressman and the security guard?

Lanao del Sur Rep. Mohammed Hussein Pangandaman has denied being involved in an altercation with a security guard, GMA News Online reports.

Pangandaman said he did not punch Ricardo Bonayog, a security guard from Eagle Watch agency who was stationed at the UP-Ayala Technohub in Quezon City. According to the police report cited in the GMA News Online article, Bonayog had claimed that on the afternoon of August 31 Pangandaman had gotten irked with him for "reasons of his own" right after he alighted from his Porsche Carrera.

The GMA News Online article went on to reveal that Bonayog "did not specifically identify the accused solon in the report he filed at the Quezon City Police District." However, in a September 5 media briefing, Pangandaman "came out to deny that he mauled the security guard." "These are false accusations. Ewan ko kung saan sila nakakuha ng ganitong istorya para i-malign ang pangalan ko," he said.

Pangandaman related that the guard "repeatedly uttered expletives after seeing his car, which has the protocol plate number ’8’ assigned to members of the House of Representatives."

"I was asking in a civilized manner what the problem was, but he was about to draw his firearm," Pangandaman said. This was why, according to the congressman, he had to "hit the guard with rolled-up pieces of paper that he was holding at that time."

Meanwhile, ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Technohub’s owner, Ayala Land Incorporated, issued the following statement:

"September 5, 2011 - At about 4:22 pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, a vehicle bearing the plate number ’8’ together with a back-up car entered the parking area of the UP-Ayala Land Technohub. The drivers of the said vehicles allegedly refused to go through the usual security check required at the parking facility. The owner of the vehicle allegedly punched the security guard assigned during that time. However, the reason for his action remains unclear. Our property manager and security officers immediately reported the incident to the police for further investigation while the security guard who sustained minor injuries was brought to Quirino Medical Center for immediate medical attention."

The same report disclosed that Pangandaman said he will file a case for harassment, while the guard said he now "fears for his life." House Deputy Speaker Lorenzo Tañada III wants the matter investigated.
