Facebook’s confession: 600,000 accounts are compromised each day

Interaksyon.com reports that social networking giant Facebook revealed in a recent infographic on security concerns that "as many as 600,000 logins on the site each day are considered compromised."

Interaksyon.com reports that social networking giant Facebook revealed in a recent infographic on security concerns that "as many as 600,000 logins on the site each day are considered compromised." Presumably, the word "compromised" means the said accounts become vulnerable to security issues.

The report, citing IT security firm Sophos, pointed out that 600,000 compromised accounts each day translates to one account infected every 140 milliseconds. However, Facebook said that it’s doing a good job filtering spam, saying that "only less than 4 percent of content found on the site are spam, compared with 89 percent of all email being spam messages."

In any case, Facebook’s revelation should reiterate the need for users to be more cautious about the information they reveal through their accounts.
