David Beckham expects tough game vs. Azkals

GMA News Online reports that hundreds of fans greeted David Beckham at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on Thursday, December 1.

 

Beckham and the rest of the Los Angeles Galaxy are in Manila for their friendly match against the Philippine Azkals on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. The LA Galaxy’s stopover in the country is the second leg of their three-nation Asia-Pacific Tour.

 

Manila Bulletin Online reports that Beckham expects a challenging match on Saturday. "There’s a lot of talented players here and we expect that the game (tomorrow) will be the same (as in Indonesia)," he said. The report noted that Beckham had described playing against the Indonesian selection team as "very difficult." The LA Galaxy won, 1-0.

 

The Manila Bulletin report also revealed: "While many have been irked with the ticket prices, which ranged from the cheapest of P2,000 to the most expensive at P15,500, organizers are targeting to at least 80 percent of the tickets be sold by opening kick off." The report went on to quote head organizer Jinx Macabenta, who said that "there has been a big spike of sales since Monday (November 28)."
