(SPOT.ph) In a city where Taiwanese fare is usually confined to a plastic cup of milk, tea, and pearls, Shi Lin stands out and serves up an array of Taiwan’s flavors, with an impressive menu of dimsum, shao mai (siomai), noodles, desserts, and more.
A definite must-try is Shi Lin’s Xiao Long Bao (P138/ 6 pieces; P230/10 pieces), an exquisite dimsum dish of luscious ground meat and savory broth inside feathery dough. More dumpling options include the Shrimp & Pork Dumpling (P148/6 pieces) and the Shrimp & Pork Shaomai (P165/6 pieces)-both of which pleasantly surprise diners with a burst of that same sumptuous broth. The Hot & Sour Soup (P108) is also an easy favorite. Apart from its appetizingly vibrant hues, this soup is brimming with what celebrity chef Graham Elliot calls "the goodies"-bell peppers, ham, mushrooms, shrimps, chives, crab sticks, to name a few.
For noodles, go for the Noodles with Spicy Sesame & Peanut Sauce (P138). This creamy concoction has a delectable tongue-tingling spiciness that teases taste buds. The deceptively simple Crispy Salt and Pepper Squid (P298), meanwhile, packs a surprising array of flavors and textures.
Finally, no meal is complete without dessert. Choose between the mildly sweet Red Bean Dumpling (P110) or the refreshing Cool Almond Jelly with Lychee (P88) and pair everything with the house-mixed Passionberry Iced Tea (P60).
Shi Lin’s premiere branch is at The Podium Mall. More Shi Lin branches are set to open in the coming months. Photos by Jean Natividad and Brian Fontanilla.
