According to a Bandila segment, President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, has weighed in on the former president and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s nine-page paper, "It’s the Economy, Student!"

In the said document, Arroyo had enumerated her accomplishments during the nine years that she was president and, at the same time, pointed out what she thought were the Aquino administration’s biggest mistakes. Pundits were quick to note that the paper’s title alone was already a "strike" against Aquino, who was, at one point, Arroyo’s student.

In his speech during the third recognition ceremony for government institutions attaining ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9001 certification on Tuesday, January 17, Aquino finally reacted to Arroyo’s nine-page "rant." He said, "Walang silbi ang mga datos pang-ekonomiya na maganda lamang tingnan sa papel subalit wala namang naidudulot na ginhawa sa mga kababayan nating nasa laylayan ng lipunan (Economic data that only look good on paper don’t do anything for the country’s marginalized sector)."

Meanwhile in a Sun.Star Manila report posted online, presidential spokesperson Atty. Edwin Lacierda, who was also present in the Janaury 17 event, pointed out: "There were some people who are trying to paint a picture that with the impeachment proceeding (against Chief Justice Renato Corona) going on, the government will not be focused on the economy. It is something that we have been trying to emphasize and this is something that the president has also emphasized." When asked who he was referring to, Lacierda said, "the people who do not like to see the president succeed."
