As if the drama unfolding in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona weren’t enough, Senator Lito Lapid also has to find time to fit his first ever teleserye gig in his Senate schedule. Like the rest of the senators, Lapid serves as a judge in the said trial. But, according to Lapid, this should not be an obstacle to his decision to start acting again.
ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Lapid signed a contract to do a teleserye on ABS-CBN on Tuesday, January 24. According to the report, Lapid "appealed to public to understand his decision to go back to acting." He explained that "the project was offered to him even before the impeachment trial started." The report revealed that the working title of Lapid’s teleserye is "The Little Champ."
He said: "Nagkataon lang ito. Matagal na ito. Kaya lang pumasok ang impeachment kaya nagkasabay lang. Sana ay huwag namang bigyan ng masamang kahulugan na may impeachment [trial], nagta-trabaho ka eh kailangan lang ng kayod, ng trabaho (This is just a coincidence. It’s been in the works for a long time. It’s just that the impeachment trial started as well. I hope nobody takes it against me even if there’s an impeachment trial going on. I just have to work on this)."
The report noted: "Lapid vowed that his work as an actor would not affect his work as a senator."
Lapid also said he was excited over his first TV gig and pointed out that this would somewhat "re-introduce" him to the viewing public. He explained, "Medyo tumatanda na tayo. Baka nakalimutan na tayo ng tao, at ang exposure ay maganda dito 'yung TFC sa States (I’m getting old. Maybe people are beginning to forger me. The exposure would be great, especially with TFC in the States)." He then added that he also hoped he would be given the chance to do a Star Cinema movie.
