Philstar.com reports that Caloocan City is "making a bid for a place in the Guinness World Records for holding the largest mass wedding last Sunday, February 12."
Â
The report quoted Mayor Enrico Echiverri, who said that a total of 1,510 couples were wed at the Glorietta Park in Tala as part of the runup to the city's 50th foundation anniversary on Thursday. The report noted: "Caloocan's Civil Registry Department said the city government shouldered the wedding expenses of the couples in the mass wedding, solemnized by Echiverri. Other city officials served as the newlyweds' sponsors."
Â
The report did not explain if Caloocan City was aiming for a mass weddings subcategory in the Guiness World Records. That being said, Agence France-Presse (AFP) published a report on Feb 2, 2011, which was about a mass wedding in India that had 3,600 couples in attendance.
