Agence France-Presse (AFP), via InterAksyon.com, reports that DC Comics is reintroducing The Green Lantern as a gay superhero. The report quotes the statement from DC Comics, which says: "Originally a Golden Age character whose previous continuity spanned from the 1940s through modern times, (Alan Scott, The Green Lantern)... is getting an update for contemporary times to reflect the world we live in."
The report said that "the new Green Lantern appears in the second issue of Earth 2". AFP likewise noted: "The imaginary comic world has tried hard recently to introduce ethnic and sexual diversity. DC Comics [also] has a lesbian Batwoman, while Marvel’s Astonishing X-Men is set to feature a superhero gay marriage."
Note that Alan Scott is only one of many Green Lanterns in DC Comics. Other Green Lanterns include Hal Jordan, who was played by Ryan Reynolds in last year’s film adaptation, and John Stewart, who appeared in the Justice League series that aired in Cartoon Network.
