This Local Brand's Upcycled Sneakers Are a Step Towards Sustainability
It's the brand's foray into upcycled footwear.
(SPOT.ph) Old and used materials such as tarpaulins have found a new purpose through local upcyclewear brand Side B Upcycling, and that's to carry all your essentials in style: from big and small bags, pouches, clutches, and other cool and functional carriers. These tarps are finding new life in a different way, and it's going to be for the comfort of your feet this time. Introducing the Side B EcoStep, the brand's first step into upcycled footwear. And also your first step into sustainability.

More and more shops are making the effort to upcycle and repurpose old and used materials that would otherwise be deemed as trash. Be it apparel, accessories, and in Side B Upcycling's case, bags and sneakers. Looking for a slower, more sustainable and meaningful gift for yourself this Christmas? The sneakers are made from rescued vintage fabric, flour sacks, burlap, and of course, tarps (reflective ones, to be more specific) courtesy of Risqué Designs. Risqué works with a team of artisans all over the Philippines.
The toecap is covered in this mauve and black patterned patchwork that ends in the middle. It continues with the burlap fabric, giving the entire upper a banig-like look and feel. The insides of this sneaker look are made using flour sacks often seen at markets. Like Side B Upcycling's other offerings, this pair oozes local style while at the same time being eco-friendly and sustainable.
The Side B EcoStep sneakers are now available for pre-order. Women's sizes start at 5 (US) while men's at 7, both until 10. They retail at P3,500. And oh, the first 20 orders will get P100 off. You can shoot them a message on Instagram to order or inquire more about the sneakers.
They currently don't have on-hand collections, according to the brand via Instagram exchange. But there are a few styles from previous collections that you could cop should you want another stylish carrier to add to your wardrobe.
