This winning design may soon be all over your feet
It will represent the Philippines in a Southeast Asia-wide competition to design skateboarding shoes.
(SPOT.ph) For the first time ever, renowned performance skateboarding shoes DC Shoes held a regional graphic design competition called DC Trase Yours in an effort to allow fans to own and identify with the brand through self-expression and creativity.
The competition is held throughout Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines), and the grand winner will get a cash prize along with some DC products. The winning design will also get to be part of DC Shoes' 2016 collection. But before they decide on a grand winner, each country will have to pick the best design from all the submissions. There were 267 entries in the Philippines and only the top 10 were put on exhibit on July 29 at A Space Gallery in Makati. The winning piece?
"Flock" by Judith Ann S. Talania. "The design that I worked on is black and white with a flock of birds in it. My concept is representing emotions with colors. Black is a color that hides something while the white means purity and innocence. To balance everything [out], I drew some birds—black birds on the white base, and white birds on the black base," she shares. "Birds are the subject of this piece because they signify freedom [and] emotions are not something we should suppress. Just like how skaters feel when they are in a stadium—free to do different kinds of tricks, no suppressing; just like how birds would fly for the first time."
