(SPOT.ph) With busy schedules, getting a haircut often feels like a mechanical move to keep yourself well-groomed. If you've made it a habit to go to your usual barber shop, which was probably suggested by your parents, it could be a whole lot of awkward in a stiff environment. But that doesn’t always have to be the case.

The Urban Barber proves that women aren’t the only ones who can get pampered. Set in a cool environment that mimics the exciting vibe of urban culture, it's a spot where you can explore the potential of a full "manpering" experience.

Owners Chad Africa and Darrel So share that they wanted to create a barber shop that appeals to the younger generation.

What differentiates The Urban Barber from other local coiffeurs is the atmosphere that’s reminiscent of lofts and the hipster culture in New York. The brightly colored graffiti murals that fill the monochromatic themed spaces are by homegrown artists Gori and Hilo Bautista.

Another thing that sets them apart is their dedication to embrace local brands. All the furnishings—from the chic barber chairs to the distinctive, refurnished décor—are reflective of Manila's young urbanite scene.

Apart from their locally made waxes and pomades, they’ve also partnered up with Filipino brands like Huevo Handcrafted Leather, The Tokwa Company, Proppy Socks, Paragon Manila, Satchmi, The Urban Warrior, The Eighth Watches, and Zen Bamboo Speakers, which are all available in-house.

Their list of services isn't what you'd normally find in most barber shops, starting off with cleverly named haircuts like A Cut-Above (P350), which works best if you want precisely styled hair, and The Bro-Buzz (P300) for a nippy buzz cut. The Urban Barber also offers Bro-tox Facials (P650) for revitalizing the face after a long week, Touch My BEARDy (P400) for a detailed beard sculpting and styling, and the Artsy Buzz Cut (P650) that allows you to customize your own clipper art done free-hand by barbers with both local and international experience.

Each package comes with a complimentary after-cut rinse, a quick facial massage and warm towel treatment to relax the pores, and an upper body massage to release tension. You can also choose between having coffee or a beer during your visit.

Still, Chad and Darrel have a bigger picture in mind. Built within the walls of their quaint barber shop is the goal to create a community within their clientele, transforming the idea of haircuts and making it more of a hobby than a chore. And with a space that is as welcoming as it is easy on the eyes, it won't be that hard.
