The 2018 Pantone Color of the Year Reminds Us of...Many Things

(SPOT.ph) Bye, Greenery. Hello, Ultra Violet! Pantone officially announced their 2018 Color of the Year and all we have to say is...at least we get to say goodbye to the tricky booger green color that was Greenery.

One look at Ultra Violet and the first thing that'll come to mind is the (rather suggestive) eggplant emoji. And then Grimace (yes, the mascot). And then ube. And to an extent, Barney. But anyway, according to Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, "We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level."

And if you think a trendier color deserves to be next year's color of the year (millennial pink, anyone?), Laurie Pressman, the Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute says, "The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today."
