These Locally Made Scented Candles Are for Hitting "Pause" on Life
They're by a Filipino brand called Pahulay, the Cebuano word for "rest."
(SPOT.ph) If you ever wished that you could work from home full-time and then find yourself regretting it now, we feel you. It’s not easy to decompress after office hours when your home is your office. Finding ways to keep work and life from merging into a big messy blur helps, like making sure your bedroom is never sullied by the presence of your office laptop, or sticking to specific working hours. Creating space that’s designed with resting in mind makes a difference, too—and that’s exactly what Pahulay’s gorgeously scented candles are for.
Named after the word “rest” in Cebuano, Pahulay makes home essentials that are meant to remind you to find time for mindfully taking a step back and giving yourself a break. With that in mind, says Pahulay’s founder Zaila Macadangdang, she produced candles infused with scents that are inspired by some of her favorite movies. “Personally,” she shares, “my way of resting, my way of pahulay, is through watching films.”
Rustic Room, scented with pine, cinnamon, cedarwood, and rose, is inspired by the March sisters in Little Women. Grandpa’s House, with its bold notes of patchouli, olive and leather, and a subtle woodsy sweetness from amber, is an homage to the Corleones of The Godfather trilogy. Our favorite, though, has to be By the Shore, with its sea salt-and-ocean scent inspired by Y Tu Mama Tambien. Each scented candle is made from a soy-wax blend and has a burning time of up to 40 hours, and they’re all handcrafted in the Philippines.

Prices for Pahulay’s handcrafted scented candles start at P699. You can order them from the MUNA online store, the Frankie & Friends online store, or at Frankie & Friends’ SM Aura and Power Plant branches.
