PSA: You Can Now Shop Menstrual Cups at Mercury Drug Stores
See which branches have them.
(SPOT.ph) Over the last few years, many women have switched from single-use pads and tampons to more eco-friendly period products. One such product is the menstrual cup, a funnel-shaped device made of silicone or rubber that can be inserted into the vagina to collect menstrual fluid. Unlike pads or tampons, menstrual cups can be washed and reused for several cycles over a period of months or years, eliminating the need for single-use period products and therefore minimizing waste.
Many have sworn by menstrual cups, but a majority of women in the country still rely on single-use pads, especially since the alternatives are often less accessible, typically needing to be purchased online or in specialty shops. Well, it looks like that may finally be changing because feminine care brand Intimina's Lily Cups are now available at selected Mercury Drug stores!
Intimina Philippines first announced that their products would soon be available at Mercury Drug stores in May through an Instagram post. According to Czarina Maye Noche, CEO of The365DaysProject (the first and only distributor of Intimina products in the Philippines), the brand is currently the "only accredited supplier of mentrual cups in Mercury Drug."
Intimina offers menstrual cups in a variety of shapes and sizes, each tailored to different routines and body types—some women, for example, may require a larger size after giving birth. As of writing, Intimina offers the Lily Cup One (a beginner-friendly menstrual cup), the Lily Cup Classic (a slim cup that can be rolled as thin as a tampon), the Lily Cup Compact (the world’s first collapsible menstrual cup ideal for traveling), and the Ziggy Cup (an intercourse-friendly menstrual cup with a flat design).
"I hope this movement will spark the menstrual cup revolution in the Philippines," says Noche. "This isn’t just an achievement for Intimina Philippines, but also a win for all the menstrual cup users in the Philippines. I hope that Filipinos can be open minded and slowly accept the fact that there are Filipinas willing to embrace change."

Noche notes that she herself switched to menstrual cups in 2016 and started selling Intimina Lily Cups in September 2018, later getting the authorization to officially become Intimina Philippines in July 2020. Though the process to apply to Mercury Drug was "long and tedious," especially as face-to-face meetings were not possible amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Noche persisted, finally getting approval this 2021.
"I'm really thankful that the people from Mercury Drug have been open-minded about selling the product," she says, noting that the Philippine Food and Drug Administration still doesn't categoriza a menstrual cup as a medical device, though the products are registered and approved under the U.S. Food and Drug Administation. Here's to hoping alternative period products will become even more common and accessible in the Philippines in the next few years!
