(SPOT.ph) In mid-2021, footwear brand FitFlop announced that they would be closing all their stores in the Philippines with their last day of operations both in stores and online being held on June 30. The brand was originally founded in 2007 by Canadian entrepreneur Marcia Kilgore and is best known for shoes that prioritize comfort and arch support. Having long been a staple for those who like comfy kicks, the brand's closure was mourned by many, especially at a time when stores both local and international seemed to be closing down left and right.

But here’s some good news to close out the year: FitFlop is back and reopening selected branches across the country. As early as July—just weeks after their nationwide closure—the brand announced that it had appointed MAP Active Philippines Inc. as its new distributor. MAP Active, a subsidiary of PT MAP Indonesia, is a well-known retailer in Southeast Asia. Locally, they represent several sportswear and lifestyle brands such as New Balance, Airwalk, Converse, and Haddad.

"We are incredibly excited to add FitFlop to our portfolio of global brands as their distributor in the Philippines," said MAP Active Philippines country manager Dirk Boerma. "With its  comfort and style, it’s easy to see why FlipFlop continues to be a local favorite."

The relaunch officially commenced in October with FitFlop planning to reopen both online and in physical stores. Nine of the footwear brand's stores will reopen in the country and as of writing, they’ve go three outposts in Metro Manila at SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, and Robinsons Place Manila. They’ve also got a branch at SM Pampanga and will soon be opening stores in Trinoma Mall and SM Cabanatuan.

"We are thrilled to announce this new partnership with MAP Active to reinvigorate the FitFlop brand in the Philippines," said Margaret Ma, general manager of FitFlop Asia-Pacific. "Their longstanding expertise and knowledge of the local market combined with our innovative footwear designs  will allow us to reach new heights as we continue to serve our loyal Filipino clientele. The Philippines remains an important market for FitFlop and we are absolutely committed to our customers in this region."
