Weekend Escape: 10 Tips and Things We Learned About Mountain Biking
Pedal your way through the countryside.
(SPOT.ph) They say adventure is out there for those who choose to seek it. Fortunately, we didn’t have to go too far: amid the shopping and corporate district of Makati City is a little nook that houses adventure in all shapes and sizes-so long as it’s on a mountain bike.
Beyond Outdoor Adventures offers recreational cycling tours of various areas in the Philippines. Apart from day tours as short as two hours, BOA also features trips that extend for as long as 10 days (Bicol, Baguio, Quezon Province, Puerto Galera, Ilocos, etc.). Each tour is inclusive of guides, gear (mountain bikes adjusted according to height and weight, helmets, first-aid), food and hydration, accomodations, and transportation. All that’s left for you to bring is yourself and maybe a bottle of extra-strength sunblock.
The weather was perfect for cycling-or so we were told. Not too warm, not too bright; a bit of a breeze made it just right and the night’s drizzle made the path relatively dustless. But it was only 7 a.m. and in the Philippines, there’s no way of telling. The designated rendezvous for today’s tour was at Riverbanks Marikina. From there we, together with our guides from BOA, rode a Land Rover precariously carrying eight people and eight bicycles on the slopey 40-minute drive to Timberland Heights, San Mateo, Rizal where our adventure would begin.
