Fans of The Walking Dead are in for a treat as Charlie Adlard visits Manila on May 10 and 11 at selected Fully Booked branches. Catch him at the following dates and times:

May 10, 2014: Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street

  • 2 p.m.: Artist Q&A
  • 4 p.m.: Book Signing

May 11, 2014: Fully Booked Alabang

  • 2 p.m.: Book Signing

Charlie Adlard did not always fancy himself a comic book artist. In fact, he studied filmmaking in college, and when he finished, preferred banging on a drum kit over getting ink on paper. He decided to go back to his first love: drawing. This led to the successful comic book series (now on TV), The Walking Dead (TWD), which is all his doing.

Adlard's realistic art in TWD is at the very least, deliciously unnerving. To depict the foul and freakish creatures and the memorable characters that elude them in stark black and white, yet still hold the millions of TWD fans in thrall is no mean feat and speaks of commendable skill with the pencil.

Aside from bringing the world of ravenous undead to life on paper, Adlard is best known for his work on Judge Dredd: The Megazine, Savage, 2000 A.D., Mars Attacks!, and The X-Files. He's also known for creator-owned comics like White Death, Codeflesh, Rock Bottom, and Curse of the Wendigo.

Havaianas brings Brazil to the Philippines through Make Your Own Havaianas 2014. As the summer season hits full throttle, it's that special time of the year when Havaianas gives us the creative license to decorate this season's must-have accessory: flipflops. It will take place in its new home at the Glorietta Activity Center from May 8 to 11, 10 a.m.

In its ninth year, Make Your Own Havaianas returns to its Brazilian roots. After all, flipflops were made to perfectly complement the vibrant Brazilian lifestyle: vivacious, expressive, adventurous, and always the life of the party. The thrill in this full-customization event comes in the ability to mix and match everything: from the soles and the straps, to color combinations inspired by street art, and to the fun limited edition pins - all exhibiting Brazil.

Entrance is free.

Ayala Museum’s ArtistSpace features Heart Evangelista and her exhibit, I Am Love Marie, the Art and Works of Love Marie Ongpauco, opening on May 8. The exhibit will run through May 22.

In her collection of about 19 oil-on-canvas paintings, patterns and prints repeat themselves, symbols that denote anything from self-doubt to audacity, from love to hate, from melancholy to joy, all the way to those inexplicable feelings. The symbols are not familiar, seemingly random and meaningless. There are none of those recognizable figures in our mainstream symbolic language or iconography, yet always very small, obscured beneath the bolder, fiercer, louder patterns.
