Run for a Cause: Sofitel Manila’s Half Marathon 2014
It’s time to give back the smile to the street children.

(SPOT.ph) Instead of running away, why not run to and for something important? In collaboration with Sofitel Philippine Plaza and the premiere running event organization in the country, Run Rio, the revival of the Manila Half Marathon, last staged in 2008, is already in the works.
Profits from the marathon will go to the Virlanie Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of the street children in Metro Manila. The Manil Half Marathon is also designed to be a "green" race: instead of using disposable plastic and paper cups, runners are encouraged to bring their own water bottles to refill at hydration stations.
This year's marathon, set in the Mall of Asia grounds and scheduled on August 17, Sunday, will feature categories ranging from 5k, 10k, and 21k. The trail is intended to take runners through the scenic view and cool breeze courtesy of the Manila Bay. The top three winners from the male and female categories will be winning cash and luxury prizes.

The Half Marathon aims to be at par with other well-known international marathons such as the Boston Marathon and the Singapore Marathon. Online registration, selling of prepaid cards, and in-store registration will start this Friday, June 27 at Toby's branches in SM Mall of Asia, SM North EDSA The Block; and Move at 30th Street, Bonifacio Global City. Registration fees are P750 (5k), P850 (10k), and P950 (21k). All runners will receive race bibs, singlets, and finishers' loot bags and drinks. The 21k-category runners will also get a finishers' medal and shirt.
