The Cultural Center of the Philippines proudly presents the Philippine Madrigal Singers’ In Excelsis, on December 21, 5 p.m., at the CCP Main Theater.

 

The University of the Philippines Madrigal Singers (UPMS), also known as the Philippine Madrigal Singers or simply Madz, is one of the major choral groups based in the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Its current conductor and musical director is Mark Anthony Carpio. They are the first choir in the world to win the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing twice (in 1997 and in 2007).

This Christmas, join the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra as it opens its 32nd season, Sound Kaleidoscope, on December 19, 8 p.m., at the CCP Main Theater.

 

American conductor Jeffery Meyer returns to Manila for the PPO December season concert to conduct an array of works by Brahms, Stucky, and Debussy. The 3rd symphony of Brahms, his shortest and possibly most striking, starts the concert, and is followed by a short work of American composer Steven Stucky called Jeu de Timbres, featuring interesting rhythmic and color combinations. Mother Nature is depicted in probably the most evocative musical representation of the sea: Debussy’s La Mer.

Relax and rejuvenate at The Power of Sound Yoga Workshop on December 20, 3:30 p.m., at the Tantra Yoga Makati. The workshop introduces the use of sound to balance and stimulate different parts of the body and brain through a gentle sequence of breathing, yoga and, meditation exercises. Listening to the sound leads participants to reach inner states of awareness and change. The emphasis is on mantra as a tool to transform disturbing thought patterns.

 

The workshop will be led by Kundalini Yoga Senior Teacher Tonie Nooyens. He is an experienced practitioner in different traditions of meditation, meditational yoga, and healing.
