This weekend, catch the opening of Repertory Philippines’ 4000 Miles on March 6, 8 p.m., at OnStage Greenbelt 1. It’s about a 21-year old Leo who, after suffering a major loss while on a cross-country bike trip, seeks solace from his feisty 91-year old grandmother in her West Village apartment. Over the course of a month, these unlikely roommates infuriate, bewilder, and ultimately become closer to each other. It looks at how two outsiders find their way in today’s world.

World-renowned soprano Nelly Miricioiu will perform in Manila on March 6, 8 p.m. at the Meralco Theater. Her program includes songs by Puccini, Verdi, Rossini, Respighi, Chausson, and Chopin. She will be assisted on the piano by Najib Ismail.



From March 9 to 11 at the Ayala Museum, she will coach 12 of the country’s finest singers in the art of singing bel canto opera, specializing in the music of Bellini and Donizetti. The masterclass is open to the public. Two culminating concerts, An Evening with Donizetti, will be held on March 14, and An Evening with Bellini on March 21, also at the Ayala Museum.

If you enjoy food, music, and art, then head over to Carovana! It’s a week-long food fair that will bring satisfaction to your taste buds and your ears, featuring acts and food stalls. It runs from March 3 to 6 at the UP Diliman College of Architecture.


Carovana sets the stage for the arts and talents of the members of Arkaira and different bands to showcase their music. Different stalls around the College of Architecture complex will be accompanied by music, making it a big outdoor restaurant with artworks displayed all over. Catch exhibits by Bluedoor Collective, Vector x Vexel PH, UP Grail, and Patricia Ramos, food from Big B, Steak Me Home, Pick Eat, Bacon Avenue, French Toasters, and La Isla Luisa, and musical performances from Tandems '91, Ourselves the Elves, and Ivan Theory.

Reserve your tickets to the lecture and screening of An Open Door: Holocaust Rescue in the Philippines on March 6, 3 p.m.,at the Ayala Museum. Tickets are priced at P300.


An Open Door is a documentary on the uplifting story of how a small Asian nation was able to save over 1,300 Jews as they fled the pogroms of Nazi Germany. It’s the story of a deep friendship borne of common adversity and intense love for freedom. Several "Manilaner" (a Jew who fled to the Philippines from the Nazis) families will be introduced, and their experiences with Filipino friends and neighbors during the Japanese Occupation and Battle for Manila will be recounted. The lecture will be led by Sharon Delmendo, Ph.D.
