Lukang Beach: Why We Can't Believe No One Has Discovered It Yet

Things here are as simple and laidback as it gets

In the municipality of Pagbilao, in Quezon Province, around 150 kilometers south of Manila, is a beach destination that holds all the desirable qualities in a stretch of salty shore...and we can't believe no one has discovered it yet.

On the approach to the island,  white sand, clear waters, lush greenery and rock formations will spell paradise. Then, an uncharacteristically unique landmark juts out from over the greenery. A red and white chimney from the Pagbilao Power Station peeks out from the trees, adding a different flavor to the experience.

Except for a few rental beach huts, this perfect stretch of beach is a tropical paradise free of any commercial establishment.

Things here are as simple and laidback as it gets. In fact, beach-goers are encouraged to bring their own food, drinks, and equipment.

Various little fishes are visible from knee deep water at the edge of the beach where water meets rock and the sea creatures come to roost.

Lying on the other end of the small island but in close proximity to the beach is the plant owned by TeaM Energy Corporation. Since the power plant prohibits unauthorized marine vessels, it has served as a sort of marine sanctuary, helping propagate the fish population. The fact that a beach shares real estate with the power plant can only mean that nature and development can go hand in hand.

To get to Lukang Beach, ride a bus going to Lucena at the Buendia Bus Station and get off at Lucena Grand Terminal. From there, take a jeepney going to Pagbilao Town Proper or ride the bus with the Calauag, Quezon signage. Get off at Binahaan Crossing and ride a tricycle. Tell the tricycle driver to take you to Barangay Ibabang Polo where boatmen can be hired to take you to the exact location. If you get lost on the way to Lukang beach, simply follow the red and white chimney.

Of course, words and photos alone aren't enough to describe the beauty of this unspoiled island. We encourage you to pack your bags, check the place out for yourself, and spread the word!
