(SPOT.ph) With the Philippines' many islands, it's easy to overlook lesser-known beach strips and under-the-radar destinations. So direct flights or convenient transport routes are always a huge plus when trying to put an island destination on the map—irony acknowledged.

Back in December 2022, AirSwift—a charter airline by Ayala Corporation—launched its direct flight from Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 4 to Sicogon Island's own airstrip. Sicogon in northern Iloilo was once an exclusive getaway for the rich and famous in the '70s, and this tourism development hopes to revive that reputation as an island paradise.

Now priding itself as a "sea to summit" tourist spot, Sicogon Island offers plenty of things to do. You can swim and snorkel in its crystal-clear waters, go island-hopping to nearby spots like Islas de Gigantes, or just laze around the white-sand San Fernando Beach in front of Huni Sicogon. The next day, you can hike to the summit of Mt. Opao behind the island resort just in time for sunrise.
