Catch this Studio Ghibli-Themed Pottery Class in Quezon City
Practicality doesn't always have to look simple and plain.
(SPOT.ph) There's nothing wrong with adding a personalized touch to your everyday items, such as plates, dishes, cups, and other earthenware. While you can have your initials engraved on them or get them in your favorite color, there's nothing that gives an item a more personalized touch than your personal touch.
Pottery is an easy way to make personalized mugs, bowls, and plates (plus it's also therapeutic). If you want to create customized crockery inspired by your favorite Studio Ghibli films and characters, Street Kohi is holding a Studio Ghibli-themed pottery workshop on July 6.

In true Street Kohi fashion, they're following up their Studio Ghibli-themed embroidery workshop with a Studio Ghibli-themed pottery workshop to be led by Pampanga pottery studio, Potherese. This Basic Handbuilding Workshop is scheduled for July 6, Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Street Kohi's cafe along Mayaman Street, Quezon City.
The workshop, priced at P3,500 per head, is inclusive of the pottery lesson and demo, stoneware clay that's good for making one to three ceramic pieces (of course, this mainly depends on how big you intend to make your pieces), usage of pottery tools and aprons, underglazes or paint, and the glazing and firing service.
There are several Studio Ghibli designs you can take inspiration from since there are more than 20 Studio Ghibli films as of writing. You can add Totoro's pointed ears to the rim of a mug, or make a bowl with a 3D Ponyo in the center or a Calcifer saucer with an egg-bacon mug (the bacon is the mug handle!). If you don't feel too confident with building the shape, you can always do something simpler, like painting a colony of Susuwatari (Soot Sprites) on a plate.
And yes, you'll be making your Studio Ghibli-themed ceramics while munching away on a Studio Ghibli-themed set lunch and drinks from Street Kohi, as this is also included in the workshop fee. Choose from such varieties as Sophie's Drink, Howl's Heart, Nanay ni Chihiro, and Haku, while the options for food include Howl's Breakfast and Spirited Away BBQ. Each pottery workshop participant only gets to choose one drink and one dish for the meal-and-drinks inclusion.
Just in case you missed the first workshop, we have good news for you: Due to popular demand, Street Kohi and Potherese are holding a second Ghibli Pottery Workshop class on July 27. It has the same inclusions, done at the same time and same venue, but it is slightly more expensive than the first. The second batch is priced at P3,700 per head. Street Kohi's series of Studio Ghibli-themed activities lead toward the second Ghibli Fest Manila to be held on October 19 and 20. This potentially magical weekend event will have film screenings (of Studio Ghibli titles, of course) among other things.
