This Christmas House May Be Brighter Than Santa's

It has half a million lights!

(SPOT.ph) Exclusive subdivisions in and around the Metro often put up extravagant Christmas displays that possibly cost a year's worth of electricity bills. It's the holidays after all, and nothing beats the amazement from seeing colorful lights, a humungous Christmas tree, and a statue of Santa Claus making merry sounds. And one Alexander Cruz used 5,000 boxes of LED lights, each with 100 hundred bulbs, to make his very own Christmas House at Filinvest Homes East in Cainta, Rizal.

The tradition started in 2010 when Cruz remembered being dazzled by big houses adorned with Christmas lights, but often closed off to the public. To make things different, he opened his gates to everyone and welcomed up to 1,000 visitors per day. "We’re embarrassed that the subdivision is losing its privacy because of the number of people coming to see the house," he said in an interview with Inquirer in 2015.

To solve this problem this 2017, homeowners and village administrators agreed to accommodate only 100 people inside the house at a given time. In addition, only 60 cars per day can enter the subdivision. Reservations are also encouraged to facilitate the smooth flow of visitors.

Cainta Christmas House is at Filinvest Homes East, Marikina-Infanta Highway, Cainta, Rizal. It is open for public viewing from Monday to Saturday, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Schedule a visit through 0915-607-7016 at least two days in advance.
