The Surfing Capital of the North Gets a Makeover

Check out these murals in La Union!

(SPOT.ph) San Juan, La Union (a.k.a. "Surfing Capital of the North") has become the go-to place for weekend warriors who are looking for a quick beach getaway or a whole-day surf sesh. The once-sleepy town has opened more hostels, resorts, restaurants, and bars to cater to the ever-growing number of its Manilenyo regulars. Riding this wave of tourists is Maka Festival, a five-day music and arts event that concluded on December 10 and left the whole town of San Juan as colorful and hip as it can be.

Now, walls of empty lots and beach resorts along Urbiztondo Beach are filled with murals and artworks by Kris Abrigo, Archie Oclos, Distort Monsters, Trip 63, and many more. Be sure to check these out next time you're in eLyU for the weekend:
