Travel Direct From Kalibo to Boracay in Just Over an Hour

The Philippines' flag carrier ventures into ferry service.

(SPOT.ph) As Boracay is scheduled to reopen on October 26, all eyes are on the newly rehabilitated island that promises to again be the tropical paradise it once was. With this in mind, Philippine Airlines—the country's flag carrier—is amping up its game of transporting tourists to anywhere in the country by launching a premium ferry service from Kalibo in mainland Panay to Boracay Island through Mabuhay Maritime Express.

Getting to Boracay from Kalibo International Airport often takes a couple of hours and a half. You have to travel by land from Kalibo to Caticlan, then travel across Tabon Strait from Caticlan Jetty Port to Cagban Jetty Port in Boracay. By the time you get to the white-sand beaches, you're already tired from the journey. Of course, there's the option of going direct to Caticlan Airport, but airfare can be expensive and flight routes are limited. With Mabuhay Maritime Express (MME), all you have to do is hop on a high-speed catarman at MME Jetty Port—Lucio Tan group's private pier located 10 minutes away from the Kalibo International Airport—and in just an hour and half, you'll arrive in Boracay.

Mabuhay Maritime will start with two vessels, namely MV Malaming and MV Magalang. They have a capacity of 410 passengers each and are divided into three seating sections: economy (P1,500/ roundtrip ticket), premium (P2,000/roundtrip ticket), and first class (P2,500/roundtrip ticket). The latter comes with USB ports on the side of the chair and reclining seats.

Start of operations is yet to be announced but Philippine Airlines president Jaime Bautista has revealed that they intend to package the ferry service with their Kalibo International Airport flights.
