Bike for a Cause: Help Save the Last Forest Park in Manila
And burn some calories while you're at it.
(SPOT.ph) When you live in the Metro, you eventually get used to the towering skyscrapers and smoke-belching buses passing through EDSA. Green spaces in the city are becoming harder and harder to come by. Dubbed as the “Last Lung of Manila,” the Arroceros Forest Park is the last remaining forest park in the city, and it continues to face threats from various development projects for commercial spaces. To raise awareness of the park’s ecological importance, the Earth Island Institute Philippines is holding a Bike Ride on December 9.
Registered bikers will assemble at the Arocerros Forest Park, which is located along Antonio Villegas Street in Ermita at 6 a.m. and will ride together to Roxas Boulevard, Buendia, and Taft before circling back to the forest park.
This little sanctuary in the Metro was born thanks to the initiative of the members of the Winner Foundation in 1993. It now houses at least 60 indigenous tree varieties, 8,000 plants, and 10 bird species despite its small size.
