Masungi Georeserve Is a Finalist for Tourism for Tomorrow Awards
It's one of the 15 places chosen worldwide.
(SPOT.ph) With all the fun (albeit challenging) things you can do at Masungi Georeserve's hiking trails, it's not surprising to see it gaining international recognition. The World Travel and Tourism Council has chosen the geotourism spot as one of the 15 finalists for the Tourism for Tomorrow 2019 awards.
With trails composed of rocks, nets, rope courses, and hanging bridges, Masungi Georeserve is known to be a conservation area and a rustic rock garden in the province of Rizal. It was conceptualized to fight illegal logging and land-grabbing activities prevalent in the area in the late 1990s.
Today it boasts a sprawling limestone formation and lush trees. The Discovery Trail features a web-style platform called Sapot, which features a view of the Laguna de Bay. The Legacy Trail, on the other hand, offers an immersion experience of Masungi's restoration efforts.
Apart from Destination Stewardship—the category Masungi Georeserve is a finalist for—the other three categories for Tourism for Tomorrow 2019 are Climate Action, Investing in People, and Social Impact and Changemakers. Winners will be announced in April.
