Mactan-Cebu Airport Bags Award in World Architecture Festival

The awarding ceremony was held in Amsterdam.

(SPOT.ph) When Terminal 2 of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport opened in 2018, it was touted as the world's first resort-themed airport. It's unlike no other: instead of white-washed walls, a glass façade reflects the blue skies over Cebu; and instead of white fluorescent, natural light comes in from the curved roof. So it doesn't come as a surprise that the terminal in Cebu won the "Completed Building Transport" category at the World Architecture Festival, which ran from December 4 to 6 in Amsterdam.

"Completed Building Transport" is one of the categories for the first-day awarding of the three-day event. According to the World Architecture Festival website, the judges' notes on the world-class airport are as follows: "This is a simple and elegant new airport that uses many locally sourced materials. It is integrated into the local area through the development of a local hub and a landscape plan. The internal spaces are light and uncluttered and the design is capable of future extension. It is clearly popular with the local community and this established memorable travel experiences." The Mactan-Cebu International Airport was completed by the Integrated Design Associates, who received the important citation.
