Siargao Named One of World's Best Backpacking Destinations

For your 2020 list!

(SPOT.ph) Siargao, a teardrop-shaped island in Surigao del Norte, is known for its laid-back vibe, white-sand beaches, and a true-blue surfing culture. It's where solo travelers go to enjoy the island life and where backpackers stay for a no-frills vacation. Hostelworld, an online booking platform for hostels, recognizes the island's charm—and has ranked it as the ninth best backpacking destination for 2020.

Every September, Cloud 9—one of Siargao's many surf spots—hosts an international surfing competition.

"Another surfer’s paradise, Siargao is the wave-riding capital of The Philippines that’s low-key one of the most beautiful islands on earth. Full of treasures like waterfalls, lagoons, caves, jungle and of course, those beaches, it’s one of the best backpacking destinations for nature lovers," writes Hope Warren in "The 20 Best Destinations for Backpackers to Visit in 2020," which was released on November 29. The booking platform also cited Mad Monkey Siargao as "the stuff of backpaking legend." It "got a huge social space set" and is known for "wild events and bar crawls."
