(SPOT.ph) Mactan Island in Cebu is known for its strip of luxurious resorts along the eastern coast: Shangri-La's, Movenpick, and Crimson. But a newcomer in this beach town is banking on its unique location on the western side: Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu Resort, which had its soft opening in the summer of 2019 and a grand launch on December 5.

"We're the only resort on the western side of the island, which means we have an exclusive on the sunset. It's something we enjoy, [the view] changes every day. Even when it's not the most cloud-free day, we still get great colors at night, especially with the mountains in the background," says general manager David Baldwin.

This view is made even more special with the 100-meter infinity pool that faces Magellan Bay. Imagine taking a dip as the sun goes down in the horizon, or nursing a cold bottle of beer on one of the beach chairs along the boardwalk.

"There's no bad angle. In more current terms, it's one of the most Instagrammable hotels you've ever seen," Baldwin adds about the 272-room accommodation.

Choices range from the 32-square-meter deluxe rooms with a view of the sea to two-bedroom executive suites. For bigger groups who don’t mind splurging, there are the three-bedroom Admiral Suite and JG Suite. All rooms come with everything you’d expect from a luxury hotel: high-speed WiFi, smart television, a pillow menu, and mini-bar with a coffee machine.

What to Do

Aside from the 100-meter infinity pool, which seldom gets crowded because of all the space, you can also enjoy the Rainforest Pool, which—as the name suggests—is tucked trees and bushes for privacy. It’s exclusive for guests checked in at the Dusit Club rooms and suites.

If you don’t want to miss a single workout session even while on vacation, there’s D-Fit Fitness Center that’s equipped with all kinds of Technogym machines. The variety of upper body trainers, treadmills, and weights will have you staying there for hours on end, especially if you’re big on fitness.

But if you’d rather relax (you’re on a break, after all), Namm Spa has a range of massage and spa services. The signature wellness brand of Dusit offers traditional Thai massage, sports massage, and reflexology foot massage, aside from the usual. One of the suites is dedicated to couples who want to enjoy a view of the bay while enjoying their massage.

Where to Eat 

Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu has a total of five dining outlets for you to choose from. It houses the Thai restaurant Benjarong, which you can only find at the hotel's properties in Manila and Davao. At the helm is Thai chef Thanaphon Jeenphuad, who makes sure that the dishes are as authentic as possible (even the spiciness that comes with it, so be warned). Don't forget to have a taste of Tom Yum Goong, which is a creamy version of the popular tom yum soup.

Tradewinds Café offers all-day dining services, including breakfast buffet which you shouldn't miss even if the comfortable beds prohibit you from doing so. The Deli is perfect for snacks all throughout the day, especially if you’re craving something sweet—the black sesame-flavored ice cream is worth a try.

For late-night drinking (or even day drinking!), Sunset Bar’s selection of cocktail drinks would have you ordering glass after glass. We recommend getting the Mactan Punch (P390), which is a lambanog-based drink with strawberry shrubs, calamansi juice, and apple juice; or Numero Uno (P390), which is a mix of Pimm's, lambanog, ginger ale, apple, lemon, cucumber, apple, and cherry.

There are regular flights from Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila to Mactan-Cebu International Airport. Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu is accessible by land through Punta Engaño Road or by sea transport through their private dock.
