(SPOT.ph) It’s good to start off the decade by trying something you’ve never done before. Even better if you can do it for free! Why not try martial arts? IGA Kendo Club is offering a free kendo session at their dojo in Quezon City on January 18 and 25, at 3 p.m.Â

Kendo is a traditional martial art from Japan that involves bamboo swords and armor. It’s the combat technique often featured in popular animes like Samurai X and Rurouni Kenshin.Â
To join, make a reservation via their Facebook event page and arrive 15 minutes before the session starts. The facilitators will give instructions and even lend you the necessary equipment. You don’t need to buy the sword (called a shinai) nor its holder just yet, unless you really want to.
Make sure you come in comfortable workout clothes and be prepared to break a sweat! As this is a trial session, you can opt to advance and join their regular class that charges P1,500 a month. Training as a beginner can last up to five months. After which, you can take an exam to see if you can progress to the next stage of mastering the art of kendo.Â
The IGA Kendo Club of the Philippines started as a group at the University of the Philippines – Diliman back in 2010. Ten years later, they have grown and currently have three dojos around the city: one in Quezon City, and two in Makati City. For students at the state university, you can still join the UP Kendo Club on campus.
This kendo trial session is on January 18 and January 25, from 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The 3rd Fitness Lab, Scout Dr. Lazcano Street, Diliman, Quezon City.
