(SPOT.ph) With all the closures and quarantine restrictions, the hotel industry is struggling to keep their businesses afloat. The ones that were able to keep their doors open are faced with the challenge of filling up their rooms. But all is not lost as a recent piece of good news brings a bit of hope in this grim time: The Peninsula Manila in Makati City is voted by Travel + Leisure readers as one of the "Top 100 Hotels in the World."
Tied with the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet, The Peninsula Manila ranks 25th on the list. It is also ranked fifth among the "Top 15 Asia City Hotels." Travel + Leisure writer Devorah Lev-Tov describes it as "a grande dame in the center of Manila's business district, this opulent hotel has 497 rooms and suites, eight restaurants and bars, a spa and fitness center, and an outdoor pool surrounded by tropical gardens. The staff are always at the ready, whether it's helping with sightseeing or room service." The Peninsula Manila earned a score of 98.40.
"Everyone in the hotel is so delighted that we have received this prestigious accolade, especially when we are celebrating our 45th anniversary this September amidst these challenging times for our industry," said Masahisa Oba, General Manager of The Peninsula Manila, in a statement.
The other hotels that topped the list are Mahali Mzuri in Kenya, Nayara Tented Camp in Costa Rica, The Opposite House in Beijing, Capella Bangkok, and Capelal Ubud in Indonesia.
Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards survey was open for voting from January 11 to May 10. Readers of the New York-based travel magazine reflected on their travels in the last three years and "[weighed] in on [their] travel experiences around the globe," including their opinions on top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more.
Palawan, an island paradise in the Philippines' western seaboard, also made it to 19th place of their "Top 25 Islands in the World" list and fifth place among "The Top 5 Islands in Asia." Back in 2020, Palawan took the number-one spot with Boracay at 14th place. For 2021, it is Milos in Greece that got the votes of Travel + Leisure readers.
