Lettering fans will get the chance to meet the artist herself at the book signing of Abbey Sy's The ABCs of Hand Lettering, happening on August 8, 1 p.m., National Book Store, TriNoma. In this book, freelance designer, workshop instructor, creative entrepreneur, and letterer Abbey Sy guides you through a wonderful new hobby with basic techniques, helpful tips, and lots of encouraging inspiration. Take up a new hobby and be inspired by creativity!




Now on its 11th year, the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival 2015 puts short film entries in the spotlight, from August 7 to 15 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Greenbelt 3 cinemas. Cinemalaya is an all-digital film competition that aims to highlight cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity. Opening this year's festival is Brillante Mendoza's Taklub, starring Aunor, while Silong, which stars Piolo Pascual, will close the event. Tickets are priced at P150 each.

In case you haven't seen it yet, catch the rerun of Romeo and Juliet: I Defy You, Stars from August 7 to 8 and from August 14 to 15, 8 p.m., at Teatrino in Promenade, Greenhills. This inaugural production from Manila Shakespeare Company revisits Verona as 21st-century Manila. At the helm, once again, is actor and director Nicanor Campos, supported by the original cast. Tickets are priced at P772 and P515.

Do you love Oishi snacks? Catch Oishi Snacktacular 2015 happening this weekend, from August 7 to 9 at the TriNoma Activity Center. There are plenty of fun activities to enjoy, from making your own ice cream at the O-Twirl booth to creating a new snack at the Make Your Own Snack station to filling up your Oishi giant pack with all your favorite snacks in 60 seconds! There will also be performances by Elmo Magalona, Slater Young, Ramon Bautista, Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla and Oishi's newest endorser for Crispy Patata, Alex Gonzaga.

From comics to an exbihit! Don't miss Manuel "Manix" Abrera's 14 Silent Comics, an exhibit of his silent comics, opening on August 5, 4 p.m., at the Vargas Museum in UP Diliman. Get lost in Philippine mythology as you meet (in)famous characters, like the manananggal, white lady, duwende, and kapre. Find out how they are portrayed in a different light through stories that cast them as protagonists. The exhibit is on display until August 19.

Get into tip-top shape at Kickass Manila 2015 Sports and Fitness Expo on all weekends of August at Commercenter Alabang. This event will feature speakers from various sports and fitness activities, like Ani de Leon-Brown, Kaye Lopez, Jonel Mendoza, and many more. Indoor cycling, yoga, and dance sessions also await the attendees! On top of that, MultiSport will hold their Camp 101, which features a coaching session on running and cycling. The best part?
