For 21 years, the French Film Festival has been offering an alternative venue for Filipinos to discover and appreciate a different kind of cinema, culture, and language. This year’s edition presents a line-up of 17 French films, released between 2013 and 2016, to be publicly screened in Manila from June 8 to 14 at the Greenbelt 3 Cinemas and the Bonifacio High Street Cinemas. On June 12, the festival renews its tradition of putting the spotlight on Filipino films through the screening of two local films that have been featured at International Film Festivals in France: Lawrence Fajardo’s Imbisibol and Carl Joseph Papa’s animated film, Manang Biring. Tickets are priced at P100.

Learn how to make authentic Thai dishes filled with sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors using wholesome vegetarian ingredients. On the menu are pomelo salad, tofu with satay sauce, pad thai, and mango with sticky purple rice. The workshop fee is P2,150 (P1,850 for early birds until June 9).

The ToyCon 2016 + Pop Life FanXperience, happening from June 10 t0 12 at the SMX Convention Center, is expected to be the biggest celebration of toys, games, movies, cosplay, anime, and collectibles. Libeertad at Green Sun brings together local artisans to showcase their mastery of malt for a day of learning, connecting, and drinking on June 11, 2:30 p.m. The Bottle Shop, Great Islands, and Craft Point are some of the participating groups. Artist Playground kicks off its second season with Happiness is a Pearl, opening on June 9, 7 p.m., at 1701 The Little Room Upstairs in Mother Ignacia, Quezon City. The production tells the story of Mari, who was married to a wealthy businessman before becoming a prostitute at a club in Kabukicho, Tokyo. Mari’s billionaire husband soon leaves her when she becomes attached to a male gigolo named Kenji. However, Kenji sets his eyes on a poverty-stricken Filipina entertainer named Maria. Intertwined by fate and struggles, Kenji, Maria, and Mari struggle to find the true meaning of love and happiness. The play runs through July 3.
