Have a hand in finishing artist Yeo Kaa's Art Fair Philippines 2023 pieces
Head up to the The Link's roof deck at Art Fair PH and enter the white tent on one side to reach Yeo Kaa's exhibit. There, you'll be greeted by her now familiar bright and brutal creations, with a massive doll sculpture right in the center, surrounded by tiny little heads. For this year's run, the artist wanted to bring to the spotlight flowers and the strength they signify. There's a long story behind that, one that involves a kind cab driver and an incredible internal journey—but we're here to talk about the fun part: you can paint Yeo Kaa's sculptures. Free will, baby.
"Depende sa tao, kung anong klaseng ugali meron sila," Yeo Kaa cheekily shares during a conversation with SPOT.ph. By that, she means what it is she thinks people will do with the spray bottles full of bright paint they've left on her sculpture's base.
You'll spot two parts of the exhibit that you can erm, help out with. There's the towering chrome sculpture in the center surrounded by a circle of little doll heads, then to the side there's a plant-slash-doll-head structure you can also spray paint on. There are dozens of spray bottles carrying different solid and bright hues to use.

As Yeo Kaa explains, folks are free to play around with however they want to paint the ceramic heads. You can mess with the pressure nozzle to either create a fine mist, or if you're in a mood, tighten it to create a powerful single stream. And because the doll heads are ceramic, "kapag sinobrahan mo pwede rin mabasag 'yung sculpture," says Yeo Kaa.
Don't worry, "kasama din 'yon," continues the artist. "Pero tingin ko matatakot silang basagin 'yon," she adds laughing
Actions say a lot about who you are as a person. So you can think of this as an exercise in that. After all, watching how people react under similar circumstances—"Hindi ka pa ba makakapag-reflect sa ugali nila? Basta, depende sa'yo."
