(SPOT.ph) Featuring songs that any Filipino karaoke-lover would know by heart, Rak of Aegis is no doubt a musical that's definitely worth watching (again, if you've already seen it). Here's your chance if haven't witnessed its brilliance yet: The all-original Filipino musical is set to open at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City on July 5 for its seventh season.
We'll probably see new faces for its principal roles this year as the company is currently holding auditions. In 2018, the cast featured Princess Vire and Shaira Opsimar (alternating with Kim Molina for the role of Aileen); Remus Villanueva (alternating with Poppert Bernadas, Vince Lim, and Myke Salomon for the role of Kenny); Kent Pontivedra (alternating with Joshua Bulot, Pepe Herrera, and Jerald Napoles for the role of Tolits); and Adrian Lindayag (alternating with Ron Alfonso, Jimmy Marquez, and Phi Palmos for the role of Jewel). Crystal Paras, Gil Aguedan, Matel Patayon, and Marielle Mamaclay rounded up the ensemble.
Rak of Aegis tells the story of fictional Barangay Venizia, which has been submerged in floodwater for two months. Aileen tries to escape her flooded town by trying her luck at YouTube, hoping it would help her become a singing sensation. Things get complicated when a politician swoops in with relief goods—and empty promises—to paint himself as the town's savior. Stringing 20 songs from the '90s band Aegis, the musical is inspired by events that happened during Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.
Rak of Aegis runs from July 5 to September 29 at the PETA-Phinma Theater, Philippine Educational Theater Asociation, No. 5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City. For updates, follow PETA on Facebook.
