(SPOT.ph) When Tanghalang Pilipino announced that they’d be staging the ethno-epic musical Lam-ang for two weeks in December at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Pasay City, we hoped they'd extend. And it seems our wish was granted, in a way: In a report by Theater Fans Manila, the theater company's artistic director Nanding Josef revealed during the closing show on December 15 that Lam-ang is set for a rerun in August 2020.
Lam-ang is based on the Ilocano epic titled Biag ni Lam-ang (The Life of Lam-ang). It stars JC Santos, who is known for the rom-com television series Till I Met You (2016) and films Sakaling Hindi Makarating (2015) and 100 Tula Para Kay Stella (2017). Prior to his appearances on the small and big screens, the 31-year-old had played a range of roles on stage. This is his first time to play a lead role in a musical.
Santos is joined by equally talented actors: Anna Luna as Ines Kannoyan, Tex Ordoñez-de Leon as the narrator, Ybes Bagadiong as Tangguob, Lance Reblando as Taraok, Jonathan Tadioan as Gibuan, Alvin Maghanoy as Batang Lam-ang, Hazel Maranan as Namongan, Remus Villanueva as Lokan, Raflesia Bravo as Saridandan, Joshua Cabiladas as Gumakas, Paw Castillo as Sumarang, and Karenina Ng as Unnayan. The artistic team includes Marco Viaña and Fitz Bitana as co-directors, Eljay Deldoc for script, Jen Darlene Torres and Bitana for music and lyrics, TJ Ramos as musical director, JM Cabling as choreographer, Bonsai Cielo as costume designer, and Meliton Roxas for lighting design.
Lam-ang opens in August 2020 at Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater), Cultural Center of the Philippines, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City. For updates, follow Tanghalang Pilipino on Facebook.
