(SPOT.ph) For artists, gallerists, and art enthusiasts, the first quarter of the year is a busy season. For starters, National Arts Month falls in February. Then, you have Art Fair Philippines, ALT Philippines, and all the other art and culture events happening all over the country. Capping off the three-month art extravaganza is Art in the Park, regarded as the more affordable counterpart of Art Fair Philippines. This year, it's scheduled for March 17, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., at Salcedo Park (or Jaime Velasquez Park) in Makati City.
Trickie Lopa, co-organizer of Art Fair Philippines and Art in the Park, is always excited about the latter. In a press event, she told members of the media how Art in the Park is often a signal for her to really relax and enjoy the art.
"Art in the Park naman talaga is casual. It's really having artists do work in a casual setting without the pressure of a big show," she tells us.
Aside from its more laid-back vibe, what sets Art in the Park from Art Fair Philippines is that it's for the benefit of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines in support of its project and programs for the National Museum of the Philippines.

Featured Artists of Art in the Park 2024
As in previous years, Art in the Park organizers handpicked artists who would have their works serving as the centerpiece of the outdoor fair.
Demi Padua
Demi Padua is quickly becoming a significant figure in the Filipino contemporary art scene. He is known for his unique approach to art, which combines realistic portrayals with abstract and figurative elements. Padua's work is a collage of stories told through the faces he paints.
"Before I joined this, I was dreaming to be part of Art in the Park. Mahirap sumali kasi they have mga requirements. Pero eventually, I was contacted. So, when I was invited, I was so happy," the artist tells us.
For Art in the Park 2024, he intends to use mixed media.
Pepe Delfin
Pepe Delfin showcases her ability to blend traditional techniques with modern themes, creating compelling narratives that resonate with a broad audience. Her art not only reflects her personal journey and insights but also taps into the collective consciousness of today's society. She explores abstract forms through geometric shapes, squiggles, and lines. Through the layers of meaning-making in her geometrical works, she always welcomes various interpretations of the audience.
"I feel like, in a sense, I'm collaborating with the viewer. I know what it means for me, but I guess I've always felt like every time I make something, as soon as I put it out in the world, it's owned by everyone else," she says.
Clarence Chun
Clarence Chun, a newcomer to this year's lineup of featured artists at Art in the Park, specializes in abstraction to craft narratives reflecting his ties and experiences with various locales he has called home. Having been born in Leyte and later settling in the U.S., Chun's artwork portrays biographical stories inspired by his personal journey as a first-generation immigrant.
Art in the Park is on March 17, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., at Jaime Velasquez Park (Salcedo Park), Salcedo Village, Makati City. Entrance is free.
