The UP Manila Museum of a History of Ideas Is Now Open

(SPOT.ph) After four years of closure, the UP Manila Museum of a History of Ideas (UPM-MHI) will reopen on December 11. 

Located in the University of the Philippines Manila campus, this museum documents the pivotal role of the university in the moments that shaped our nation. If you've ever wondered what pushed certain events to be or the ideas that put them into motion, this is the place for you.

Housed inside a neoclassical building reminiscent of the architecture of the American period, the UP Manila Museum of a History of Ideas' location tells its own story.

The building is one of the first structures built for the UP system. It housed the UP Infirmary until 1947 and survived the many bombings and raids of World War II.

Eventually, the building housed the College of Dentistry for a while. Once it was vacated, it was then renovated for adaptive reuse by Ed Calma to house the museum.

You can visit the UP Manila Museum of a History of Ideas Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This museum is open to the public. Whether you're from UP or not, you can head over without problems.

Walk-in visitors are allowed, but guests are strongly advised to book ahead by messaging the museum's Facebook or Instagram account. Just make sure to wait for a response from the museum staff confirming your visit. 

Note that group and guided tours, photoshoots, and events are not yet allowed within the premises. 

Admission fees for the UP Manila Museum of a History of Ideas:

Much like other museums in the UP system, a visit to UPM-MHI requires a minimal fee that will be used for its maintenance. Here's how much you need to visit the museum:

• General Admission: P75
• Senior Citizens and Persons with Disability (PWD): P60
• Non-UP Student: P50
• UP Employees/Students: P25

Tickets can only be paid on-site during your visit.
