Works by Wipo, Jem Magbanua + More to Raise Funds for Science
It's organized by Space Encounters.
(SPOT.ph) The fields of science and arts are often placed head to head as people debate whether one is more important than the other. But if there's anything that this pandemic has made us realize, it's that both are on equal footing, with one taking care of your body and the other replenishing of your soul. (Plus, Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci was both a scientist and artist during his time.) Space Encounters Gallery believes so, too. From May 1 to 30, the Pasig-based art space is selling works from past exhibits to raise funds for PPEs for Filipino scientists and health care workers battling COVID-19. The project called Art for Science is allocating 25% of its profit to the University of the Philippines Medical Foundation.
Works by participating artists like Wipo, Mark "KDLT" Copino, and Jem Magbanua are displayed through Space Encounters Gallery's social media accounts. Interested buyers can drop a message to reserve a piece and pay via Chinabank, BPI, or BDO within two days. All works, which are signed by the artists and come with a Certificate of Authenticity, can be picked up or delivered after the enhanced community quarantine.
UPDATED (May 8): UP Medical Foundation's partnership with Space Encounters Gallery will no longer fund scientific research, and money raised will now go to PPEs. This article has been edited to reflect these changes.
