Dex Fernandez's Garapata Hatchery Is Going Online for Art in the Park 2020
Plus everything you need to know about the annual art fair.
(SPOT.ph) Fans were excited when it was revealed that Art in the Park 2020's main exhibition would be a whole booth teeming with Dex Fernandez's famous "Garapata" character rendered as graffiti, stickers, T-shirts, and even balloons. But the much-awaited outdoor art fair scheduled for March 15 at Jaime Velasquez Park in Makati City was postponed following the imposition of community quarantine in Metro Manila. Art in the Park 2020 had to adapt; and from August 10 to 17, we're once again going to see a wide range of artwork on display—this time, through www.artinthepark.ph.
Instead of an interactive show, Fernandez's Garapata Hatchery is displayed as a time-lapse video where the artist gives us a glimpse of his creative process. He also created a special paper mural separated into 22 works that viewers can see at the end of the clip.
Up to 53 exhibitors, including art galleries, collectives, and student groups, are set to showcase their works online; and like the usual Art in the Park, these items are up for sale. Prices have a cap of P50,000 and a portion of all sales will go to the Museum Foundation of the Philippines in support of their projects for the National Museum.
Other special events to look forward to are: Richard Quebral's special exhibit titled Isometric Ay! lah, lah, land..., a Globe Platinum-exclusive show of Reena Gabriel's latest collection, a virtual demo of Jackie Lozano's method of portraiture, and online sessions with Robert Alejandro. Fifth Wall Fest, which promotes dance film as an art form, will also have a special online performance.
On August 16, you can bid online for a Quebral original, which he made especially for the fair. There will also be lottery for small paintings and prints by the artist.
Singer-songwriter Martti Franca is set to close the seven-day online fair with a virtual performance.
Art in the Park Online is from August 10 to 17 through artinthepark.ph.
