(SPOT.ph) Historical sites and museums in Intramuros reopened in February, only to be forced to close down again following a revert to strict quarantine rules in March. But today, June 11, the Department of Tourism announced that historical sites and museums in NCR Plus may soon reopen following the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. Venue capacity is limited to 20%, and health and safety protocols are still in place. Guided tours also remain to be prohibited.

"This good news is very timely as it coincides with our observance of Independence Day. The historical sites and museums remind us of our rich culture and history and of the heroism of those who fought for our freedom. Revisiting our past brings us closer together as a people and draws us closer to a future free of the perils and uncertainty brought about by the pandemic," Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said in a statement.

This approval covers historical sites and museums in NCR Plus, which includes Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna—collectively under general community quarantine with restrictions. Museums and historical sites in other areas under regular general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ are already allowed to operate.
