(SPOT.ph) Chocolate, love, and sex have a way of going hand in hand (in hand). The Aztecs traditionally considered cacao to be an aphrodisiac, likely for the feel-good chemicals—namely tryptophan and phenylethylamine—naturally found in the fruit. Granted, this has been disproven, but even psychologically, there’s still the way its telltale duskiness and depth have a way of making you feel all tingly and awakening whatever fire might be hiding within your… stomach (and perhaps beyond). It’s the kind of itch that can only be sated with a gratifying dose of chocolate, be it in the form of a cookie that’s moist and molten in the center; a cake that’s drop-dead gorgeous in the looks department; or a stunning plated dessert (theatrical presentation optional) at a restaurant.
Now it takes a special kind of chocolate dessert to be, well, sexy. It’s hard to put into words, but you know exactly what we’re talking about; some sultry numbers just have that way of pulling you in, having you on the edge, and firing up that sense of desire before delivering that bout of euphoria we all naturally, human as we all are, crave. Appearance helps for sure, the aroma likewise keeps you hooked—but taste is where it’s ultimately at and going bold and full-bodied on the chocolate front is the way to go. With that in mind, these confections are just the thing to deliver the toe-curling sensation only topnotch chocolate desserts can deliver.

These chocolate desserts will drive your taste buds (and all other senses) wild:
Chocolate Entremet from Patisserie Le Choux-Colat
Entremet cakes—multilayered, multicomponent cakes typically enrobed with a glaze of sorts—are one of those desserts that naturally tempt from the inside out. In the case of Patisserie Le Choux-Colat’s Original Chocolate Entremet Cake (P1,720), the allure begins with its dark-chocolate exterior with a mirror-like sheen and gold-leaf crown. That’s not all there is to it; inside you’ll find layers of a 64% dark chocolate mousse, moist chocolate sponge, homemade crispy wafer crunch, hazelnut praline paste, and milk chocolate that all come together to give you different, yet harmonious, tastes and textures in each forkful.
Patisserie Le Choux-Colat is at 2/F The Podium, 12 ADB Ave, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City and Building 8 of Molito Lifestyle Center, Alabang.
Chocolate Xiao Long Bao from Din Tai Fung
There’s something deeply satisfying about prodding open into a plump, glossy object and having dark brown goo flow out like lava. Get your head out of the gutter; we’re talking about the Chocolate Xiao Long Bao (P150/three pieces)—a xiao long bao-inspired dessert with a melty chocolate truffle inside a chewy mochi wrapper. Be careful when biting into this as the filling can be molten-hot; then again, it’s precisely the kind of heat you know you crave come lonely Friday nights.

Sexy Strawberry Sea Salt Praline Walnut Chocolate Pie from Serendipity Gourmet
It’s in the name. Pie shop Serendipity Gourmet makes the Sexy Strawberry Sea Salt Praline Walnut Chocolate Pie (P2,980)—which is admittedly a mouthful to pronounce (try saying it 10 times fast!), but happily lives up to its moniker. Featured here is the tandem of plump, juicy U.S. strawberries and sultry Belgian dark chocolate, along with buttery walnut pieces for crunch. Don’t forget the crust; Serendipity Gourmet’s is rightfully crisp and flaky that we wouldn’t mind snacking on it on its own.

Chocolate Pomegranate Sorbet from Gelato Manila
The appearance alone of this dessert is enough to entice: it’s smooth, glossy, and in a seductive shade of brunette. Just wait ‘til you get a spoonful, though. This being a sorbet, it delivers a clear dose of chocolate (fruity-vigorous Risa 100% South Cotabato Chocolate at that!) sans dairy to muddle the flavor. And as bold and bittersweet the chocolate bit is, it’s then paired with pressed pomegranate and berry juices for tanginess that illuminate the mix.

Belgian Chocolate Truffle Cake from Chef Kerri's Baking Room
Obscene is the best—perhaps the only apt—word to describe this (literal) heavyweight of a chocolate cake (P2,800). (Sexiness ain't limited to any one size, if we may add.) It's not for the faint of heart, loading up on the chocolate on all fronts—beginning with a Belgian chocolate cake base (which is so moist it makes a sticks to the knife while slicing and the back of your fork!), a thicc frosting of chocolate ganache, and more-than-welcome toppings of chocolate cake truffles and shavings (props the Chef Kerri's for going all the way). More than its impressive size, the quality’s superb; each forkful delivers a deep and dusky (specifically, Dutch-processed cocoa-y) dose of chocolate that satisfies beyond the physical realm.
For orders, send a message to Chef Kerri's Baking Room on Facebook or Instagram.
Chocolate & Peanut Butter from One World Kitchen
Chocolate and peanut butter might evoke the candy bars you chomped down on in your youth, but it goes all grown up in One World Kitchen’s Chocolate & Peanut Butter dessert (P420). Available as part of their ala carte menu, this entremet presents the combo in a suave light by way of a peanut-butter mousse, strawberry gelee, almond dacquoise, chocolate cremeaux, chocolate brownie, and a glaze of 60% dark chocolate.
One World Kitchen is at 8491 Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City.
64% Mindanao Dark Chocolate Doughnuts from Rogue Doughnuts
Granted, doughnuts aren’t exactly the first dessert that comes to mind when you think “sexy.” But when you’ve got a brand like Rogue that takes the nostalgic pastry to artisanal heights, they can very well fit into the seductive sorta caliber. Their 64% Mindanao Dark Chocolate variant (P105), in particular, is a chocolate lover’s dream. As the name implies it’s topped with a ganache-esque icing of 64% dark chocolate from South Cotabato that’s delivers plenty of robustness and character—especially in tandem with the sprinkling of sea salt and cacao nibs for crunch.
Rogue Doughnuts is at The Podium, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City and Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City.
“Foi Mal!” from Alegria Cantina
You don’t always find the words “chocolate” and “tacos” in the same sentence, but Alegria Cantina’s onto something with their “Foi Mal!” dessert (P350). Essentially a deconstructed chocolate cake, each piece has 63% dark chocolate mousse, 63% dark chocolate ganache, dark chocolate sable, and a wad of mocha sponge atop suave-looking chocolate “tortillas.” You can pick them up and bite into ‘em like you would a taco to get the full sensation of contrasting textures mingling with one another.
Alegria Cantina is at Molito Lifestyle Center, Madrigal Avenue, Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
Tarta de Chocolate from Chef Chele’s Kitchen
The pairing of chocolate and banana is a classic that Chef Chele’s Kitchen’s takes to tantalizing heights in their Tarta de Chocolate (P290/slice, P1,750/9.5 inches). Filling its crisp, sturdy tart shell is a smooth chocolate ganache that’s surprisingly dark, bold, and bittersweet. It’s then topped with thin slices of bananas with lightly caramelized edges, which are just the thing to balance out the burliness of the chocolate.
Chef Chele's Kitchen is at G/F The Podium, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
Chocolate Lava Premium Pancake from Gram Pancakes
Japanese pancakes—like the kind you can get from Gram Pancakes—are one of those desserts that tend to be of the light, fluffy, ethereal sort. But the Japanese café’s Chocolate Lava Premium Pancake (P405) hides a devilish surprise: a filling of chocolate ganache that oozes out like its namesake once you dig in. Call it the proverbial gentleman on the streets, freak in the sheets of a dessert, if you will.
Gram Pancakes is at G/F Serendra, Bonifacio Global City and 3/F Fashion Hall Building D, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.
