(SPOT.ph) Tough as the real world might necessitate us to act, we all crave tenderness at the end of the day—a quality the soft and chewy makeup of rice cakes can deliver. Variations are abound in different parts of Asia, the Philippines included—and beyond the ilk of sapin-sapin, kutsinta, and the like popular in Manila are other drool-worthy versions from across the country. Try putli mandi, a hard-to-find Mindanao delicacy, right from the Metro through this online seller:

Putli mandi comes from the Tausug and Yakan people of Sulu, and these colorful confections strike the eye with their playful appearance. These treats begin with a dough base (usually made with glutinous rice or cassava), which are rolled into balls and filled with sweetened coconut; they're then given an extra helping of more coconut (you can never have enough) with an extra sprinkling of fresh grated coconut prior to serving.
