(SPOT.ph) These days it's pretty normal to see a delivery rider walking and rushing about in the different restaurants and shops we frequent. Ordering online and through apps has become such a way of life since the pandemic that we bet you won't be able to go through a day without interacting with a kuya (or ate) out making deliveries. But despite their significant role in our lives, it's no secret that delivery riders are often the subject of unwarranted pranks, scams, and even maltreatment by customers and establishments. But one particular viral post is currently making rounds on the internet for an entirely different reason—this time a positive one.

A Facebook post by Jab Escutin has been making rounds in food groups and newsfeeds everywhere. "Shoutout sa Texas Roadhouse Shangri-La Plaza Branch! Nung (may) Grab Delivery Rider na dumating pinaupo nila sa table tapos binigyan nila ng drinks tsaka complimentary bread habang inaantay niya mahanda yung order na idedeliver niya." his post reads.

Texas Roadhouse treats delivery riders as partner customers by giving them free refreshments

Speaking with Escutin, SPOT.ph got the lowdown on the heartwarming scene at the Bistro Group establishment in Mandaluyong. Escutin describes the setting as a moderately busy Wednesday, with people already rolling in for the early dinner service. "It was actually my wife that pointed out the situation to me, she said the driver looked pleasantly surprised when he was given a proper seat at a table and given refreshments."

When the driver left, a curious Escutin asked their waitress whether this was standard practice, to which the Texas Roadhouse Grill staff answered that it’s usual for them to treat delivery riders this way. As long as there are tables available, they will be given to delivery riders. If it’s a full room, they have proper seats without tables they provide so the riders can still rest. This touched Escutin and prompted him to post on his social media platforms praising the establishment for their "maayos na serbisyo sa kapwa manggagawa."

SPOT.ph reached out to Texas Roadhouse Grill to check if this was an isolated practice at the Mandaluyong Mall branch. According to Texas Roadhouse Grill Shangri La Director for Operations Cyril Reyes, "Every store has at least a drinking station. This started even before the pandemic." Additionally Reyes recalls that, "During the pandemic, it was the riders na bumuhay sa amin. They do a job for us. We don't have to deal with delivery because they do it for us. Kumikita kami nang mas malaki dahil sa kanila, so we should treat them nicer." He even adds that he didn't realize a lot of people would appreciate this simple act. "I think we should do this regularly, and it should be a standard." Reyes also added that other Bistro Group brands like Randy's Donuts, Italianni's, and TGIFriday's also practice this initiative.

This simple act of kindness from the restaurant earned them praise from many commenters on Escutin's public post. Here's hoping more establishments and customers treat delivery riders with more kindness and patience.
