Get Ready to Swerve: Kiwami's Got a Sultry New Take on Their Famous Soft Serve

It's a sexier caramel sundae.

(SPOT.ph) When Kiwami opened in BGC a few years back, we were already familiar with the different brands the Japanese food court brought in, such as Yabu and their katsudon and Ippudo's ramen bowls. But there was a twist: In-house newbie, the Hokkaido Soft Serve, in all its no-frills frozen dessert glory, received praises left and right—and will continue to as it launches a new flavor: Maple Honeycomb Sundae.

Check out the new Kiwami Hokkaido soft serve:

For the sake of anyone who hasn't tried Kiwami's Hokkaido Soft Serve, allow us to hype it up even further: It is one of the best soft serves in town. Creamy, striking a balance between milky and sweet, served in a buttery lengua de gato cone—yes, even if you loathe ice cream cones, this one is a must. And as much as we thought we were content with its simplicity and didn't look for anything more, the new flavor's added honeycomb toppings made us swerve.

Priced at P170 a cup, the Maple Honeycomb Sundae is the same signature Hokkaido soft serve but topped with crunchy cubes of honeycomb, and a lengua de gato cigar stuck stuck in. Instead of a cone, you get the buttery cookie as a topping together with the honeycomb chunks that are as sweet as it is smoky, denser than it is airy, and crunchier than it is chewy.

In the simplest way we can describe Kiwami's new dessert, the Maple Honeycomb Sundae is a fancier, schmexier version of a caramel sundae. There's a playfulness to the new dessert's textures, there's an added unusual smokiness in its toppings, and the Hokkaido soft serve, while it does look like vanilla ice cream, is far from being vanilla—both literally and figuratively.

When we were invited to the Kiwami Masters Night, an intimate event wherein the chefs of Kiwami's brands (Yabu's Kazuya Takeda, Ippudo's Yota Shiiba, Hannosuke's Kazuhito Sato Jin, and Hachibei's Katsunori Yashima) were brought in from Japan, we were prepared to stuff ourselves with whatever Japanese food they put on the table. So imagine just how good Kiwami's Maple Honeycomb Sundae is, for it not only to outshine everything else, we even questioned our love for the plain version. But as the age-old saying goes: "There's always room for dessert." Living with this philosophy, we can—will—make room for both.

Kiwami is at Bonifacio High Street Central, Taguig City and Alabang Town Center, Alabang, Muntinlupa City. For more information, check out Kiwami's Facebook page.
